In her class at school, she becomes the 'leader of the girls', and is caught in a battle to restore order to the classroom. Her opponents? the boys of course, and Sana faces off the 'leader of the boys', Hayama.

 Sana's displays of emotion are hilarious , on occassion (actually every week) Sana's emotional outpourings become extreme which is invariably followed by an impromptu rap on her hand-held rap machine.

Sana Kurata is one of the most hyper characters you'll ever see in anime. Then again, she stars in one of the most hyper anime series I've ever seen. Sana is the star of my one of my favorite anime and Manga, Kodomo no Omocha! ("Child's Toy", called Kodocha by fans)
 

Personality

Sana is one-of-a-kind. She's super-hyper and super-happy. It's rare to see her serious, or without a smile. Sana tries her best not to be depressed, telling herself it will show on her face when she is acting.

Hyperness is one of Sana's strong qualities. She can stay incredibly energetic, even after working hard all day. However, this sometimes causes her to overload, and she'll end up very tired.

Sana can be brutally honest at times, especially when it comes to something she hates. She won't think twice about telling you you're weird, or that she doesn't intend to talk to you anymore. Sana is one of those people who will stand up for what she believes in, and will work hard to achieve her goals.

However, Sana often lies about if she's feeling sad. Depression is one thing she doesn't like others to see her in. She'll only cry by herself, and will rarely show any signs of anxiety.

Sana also often overreacts about something. She's quite imaginative, and sometimes too imaginative. This causes Sana to start going on and on about whatever she's imagining, turning simple things into huge stories.

Career

Sana is a popular actress, and takes all the attention in a show called Kodomo no Omocha (that's where the name of the anime comes from ^^;). She's been trained at Komowari since she was five, and is a very talented actress.

Kodomo no Omocha (the show, not the anime ^^;) is a live show with children ad-libbing. They compete in a school setting for cool prizes.

Sana prefers to act in live performances. She doesn't like how pre-recorded shows allow you second chances. That may be why she is in Kodomo no Omocha (the show).

Friends

Sana has many friends at school, who she treats like any girl treats her best friends. The two that seem to be around Sana the most are Aya Sugito and Momi. They are always talking to her during class at school, and appear to be her best friends.

A little later in the anime, Sana becomes good friends with Tsuyoshi Ooki/Sasaki. Tsuyoshi had a huge crush on Sana, but when he decided he like Aya better, he and Sana just became good friends. Tsuyoshi tries his best to help Sana in whatever way he can.

Then there is Sana's manager/"boyfriend" Rei Sagami. Rei is very protective of Sana, and because of a certain thing she did (spoiler!), he considers her one of the most important people in his life. He doesn't think of Sana as a girlfriend like she imagined he did, but has more of a brotherly or fatherly concern for her.

I'm leaving Hayama for his own section, because he is by far Sana's best friend, and perhaps even more...

Family

Sana has a loving mother who she's very close to. "Mama" is extremely wise, and almost always knows exactly what to do. However, there's more to their family setting than meets the eye. The following paragraph contains an extremely big spoiler. If you want to really get the full effect of the show, I suggest you don't read it. However, if you really want to read it, highlight (drag the mouse over) the following paragraph.

Mama isn't Sana's real mother. Mama found Sana abadoned the day Sana was born. The reason Sana is an actress is so that she could become popular enough to find her real mother. Sana's real mother has the same face as Sana, but not really the same personality. She married later on and had a daughter, who Sana likes to consider her "little sister", even if they don't know each other. Sana's father is dead.

Hayama

Akito Hayama is Sana's "worst enemy and best friend". At first, Sana fights with him because he was wrecking the classroom by helping the boys in the class terrorize the teacher. Sana fights hard to stop him, but Hayama is hard to defeat. Finally, she takes an embarrassing picture of him, and uses it to "tame" him. 

But things change when Sana finds out about Hayama's sad family life. Suddenly, they had become true friends. For some reason, Sana felt relaxed when she was with Hayama, and would allow herself to cry or be serious. Also, Hayama had fallen in love with Sana, causing several love problems to occur.

 Around Hayama, Sana is completely honest with herself. When she has to cry, he's the one she cries to. In front of Hayama, Sana doesn't have to put on a happy face or an act. Hayama and Sana are like what they really are inside when they're with each other.

Sana also helps Hayama be a little more honest. She's the person he calls when his dad is sick and in the hospital. When visiting his mother's grave, Hayama asks Sana to come with him. Sana really brings out the best side of Hayama .
